The Labor & Delivery Unit at WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital, located at 147 Gettys St., Gettysburg, PA 17325, provides a welcoming and family‑centered environment for birthing parents. The unit is designed to blend comfort with high‑quality medical care, offering a calm, home‑like atmosphere supported by a skilled team of obstetricians, nurses, and maternity specialists. Families typically labor, deliver, and recover in the same space thanks to the unit’s Labor–Delivery–Recovery rooms, which are arranged to promote privacy and continuity of care. After birth, parents transition to private postpartum rooms that support rest, bonding, and newborn care in a peaceful setting. In the postpartum room there are two hospital style beds!
The maternity center includes access to a newborn nursery for families who choose or require nursery support, along with educational resources such as the Newborn Channel to help parents feel confident during their stay. The hospital emphasizes a personalized, family‑focused approach, offering childbirth education, breastfeeding support, and other services that help families prepare for and navigate the birth experience.
Visitors and support persons can park in the hospital’s main parking areas and enter through the primary entrance, where staff guide laboring patients to the maternity unit. Situated in historic Gettysburg, the hospital serves families from across Adams County and surrounding communities, providing a trusted and accessible location for childbirth.

Tools for labor
One thing unique about Gettysburg is the massive amount of tools that it has to support moms through an unmedicated labor! During a tour of the hospital, you can ask them what pain management they have for unmedicated mothers and be introduced to a few of these yourself!
Spinning Babies
Gettysburg Hospital utilizes Spinning Babies to help ensure your little one is in the most optimal placement for labor and birth. The poster on the wall has several different positions for engaging baby, resituating baby, bringing baby down, as well as for helping to push!
Birth pool in a box
Gettysburg provides labor tubs for use in low risk labors.
These are blow up, soft tubs that mom can labor in when things get intense. This is an INCREDIBLE tool to have in the tool belt.
Birth is "not allowed" in the tub, and if it looks like birth is imminent, the providers will have mom stand up.
Birth balls & Peanut balls
Birth Balls and Peanut Balls truly can be the make or break for labor progression. When mom is tired and needs to lay down or rest, the peanut ball can be phenomenal for helping baby move down while mom rests.
Similarly, the birth ball is amazing for engaging baby and creating movement while not moving very much at all.
the Multitrac
The Multitrac birthing tool is a modular, midwife-designed system for active, upright childbirth, featuring a stable base, padded seat/backrest, and interchangeable components like a pelvic ball, sling, and birthing stool, supporting various positions and partner engagement for safer, more natural labor in hospitals or birth centers. It's known for its flexibility, ergonomic design, and ease of movement, replacing traditional ceiling-mounted ropes with its integrated caster system.
bluetooth monitoring
The Electronic Fetal Monitoring at Gettysburg has both a wired and wireless version.
The Novii which is the wireless version has replaceable pod batteries and sticky pads that are similar to a Tens' unit stick pads.
This can be taped up and used in the shower or tub.

FAQ
Can I bring my own birth preferences?
Absolutely. The care team welcomes birth plans and will review your preferences with you when you arrive.
What should we bring?
Bring personal comfort items, toiletries, baby clothes, a car seat, and any items you want for labor (like snacks, music, or a robe). The hospital provides diapers, wipes, blankets, and postpartum supplies.
Is birth photography or Videography allowed?
Photos are usually allowed, but video recording may be restricted during certain procedures. Staff will guide you on what’s permitted.
I have not ran into any issues previously.
Can I bring a doula?
Doulas are welcome and considered part of your support team. They can accompany you throughout labor and birth.
